Yes, this sounds like burnout. See if you can take a break of some sort, from two weeks to even a few months off.
Litigation is especially prone to burning people out, with the constant fire drills and clients in crisis.
You may qualify for short term disability leave if your firm offers it.
Yea. I took 3 months off and went back. Was good for a couple months and then the feeling returned :(
Fellow year 7 litigation associate here. Every day I question whether litigating is worth my life. Working for 10+ partners at a time, adapting to their writing and work style, it’s a lot.
7th yr not big law but big law hours. Complex commercial lit. Joined a new practice and felt good for a year. What kills my motivation is knowing i need to shmooze and get clients to really make big money since im not big law. I have the fire drills of litigation and also having to network with clients that wont even consider me unless im extremely seasoned.
Also 7 years in. It appears there’s a theme with that here. The 7 year itch I suppose.
That’s when I went in house. It was more motivating working for a common goal, rather than client’s goals.
I think this feeling is very normal. Perhaps you could talk to a therapist about it and explore what motivates you now. People change for all sorts of reasons without even realizing it.
This is me too. 7th year lit associate in BigLaw. Struggling.
Yes. I am on a major struggle bus
Everyone should change a job before age 50, start converting into another profession now, something that you love to do before you burnt out completely
This is not for you anymore and you know it too
Why before age 50?
Treat yourself to a nice 2 week vacation. Something really special.
Yes I am trying to find out jon in legal firm like admjn/receptionist to start my legal career but every time not receiving positive response
Keep trying be consistent for 100 closed doors one will open
Good luck
Ask for a raise and if that fails request time off
Money is not the reason I’m not feeling motivated. I feel very well compensated
