Also - start a business - register an LLC even if it makes 0 money and is not something you want to do. Frame your gap as ‘exploring entrepreneurship’ or ‘life as a founder/capital raiser is not for me’ in interviews. Better than ‘been looking for a year’

Great advise. @OP if you do go this route, seek out local small business meetups. Ive been to a few and got a few local businesses as clients a few years back.
10 months here, but I’m on the cusp of 2 offers. Around new year I got on Adderall and started blasting out tailored resumes to apps, every day. Interviews lag by a few weeks, but they come
Yeah, took me 2 years

Have you tried non consulting roles or perhaps industry jobs; even where you may be underemployed?
Depending on your financial situation, any job is better than no job. You can always explain things during an interview.
A C-level exec from a former client ended up freelancing at startups and ultimately taking a PMO role to keep the lights on after being unable to land another C-level role
They ultimately pivoted to consulting and are now a Director/Sr Manager at another Big4 firm. Comp is still lower than their C-level days but theyre happy to be gainfully employed and once again earning a decent salary.
IT consulting erp out of college 6+ years, and yes have applied, networked, and interviewed for junior positions too. Yes have targeted industry too, as in the meantime upskilling in other skills/erp solutions I wasn’t exposed to while employed with a company. I’ve broadened my search well beyond just consulting so yes any job is better than no job to apply my skills

I ended up just applying to 3 jobs per day. I would drop my resume in chatGPT with a link to the job and make AI write it…then go in and fix it of course. LinkedIn premium is actually useful in seeing who you know that knows someone at the company.
Indeed.com has current offers
Got a job in 2025 after going on to almost 2 years after layoff. So you just have to continue to apply and one job will have to be yours. Lots of dark night of the soul in that 2 years and made it past and for sure test your self worth and thinking you were good enough, when in reality you are good enough for everything. Now new job pays 20% more and environment is better too and kinder, easier going people overall. But still like that layoff affected my confidence for sure even as a woman (yeah apparently I care about working as a woman and don't want to stay at home and depending on others) and now have to rebuild that back.
Took me just over 2 years because I found out I was pregnant soon after losing my job
I DMed you. Let me know if you are interested.
Hi I DMed back
Nope but it's hell of a lot harder when you don't write exactly what AI IS LOOKING ON YOU RESUME TO GET ANYONE TO EVEN TALK TO YOU

Tell chatGPT to tailor your resume to beat AI screening. It works…literally put the job link in and upload a copy of your resume.
How many years of experience and in what area of consulting?

I got an offer from Boeing that was rescinded.

That’s heartbreaking.
How are you not homeless? Rich family or breadwinner spouse?
If I was jobless after even 2-3 months I'd be taking anything I could get, and that's even considering I have much more than a year's worth of buffer saved up.
Not op, but we’re also a dual income family earning above-average salaries. During my 2 years of unemployment, my husband’s salary covered the majority of expenses and we barely tapped into savings for the difference. We were saving for a deposit for a larger house in a HCOL, so we had plenty in savings to fall back on. Now that I’m employed again, we’re back to saving for a larger house.
Been looking for 5-6 months. Created an LLC and did a year-long contract project. It is a very tough market; Q1 is slow. Been in the same spot a few times; just need to focus and keep moving. Hope somthing will pan out. Somtime you have to take a break from job seach and refocus.
