Looking for consensus in stock picking is probably the fastest way to underperform the market. If everyone likes something then there’s a good chance all that optimism is already baked into the price. Please be wary with these picks.
I hear what you’re saying and agree. But I do think that brand recognition and “popularity” are important factors in predicting growth potential, future threats of competition, and therefore, the stock price. When a brand permeates someone’s daily life so much that they “love it” and wouldn’t trade it for another product of similar function, you know it has staying power that will influence future earnings. Just something to think about.

Yep. Last commenter is right. Just take it with a pinch of salt. Also applies for analyst reports i.e. Morningstar and the likes.
Think about it: wealth is relative. Money is just a measure for magnitude, but it isn't wealth. For someone to be rich with $100, someone needs to be poor and money needs to be truly scarce enough. If everyone has $100, that person isn't wealthy.
Now, go back and change that $100 to any number you'd like to retire on... that's what it means by wealth is relative. If everyone has it, you're not rich.
For stocks, if everyone is doing DCA into index funds, you're not rich. You're just maintaining your position in society.
If everyone is picking APPL this decade and SQ the next decade, you're not rich.
Only your own unique mix of decisions will determine where you end up relative to others.
