Don't do it. They are like night school. No recruiting. Friend worked at Harvard, went to extension school for free, but it didn't really help with the job search.
I have the Harvard Extension Certificate in Strategic Managment, and right after I got a full-time MBA from NYU Stern. During recruiting, nobody gave a shit about Harvard Extension. One guy even laughed at me and point blank said ‘so you just put this on here just cuz it says Harvard right?’ Didn’t get the job obviously. My two cents, go get an MBA. Don’t waste your time and money on Harvard Extension.
I judge people who list that school on their LinkedIn / resumes hard. It's embarrassing. Don't do it.
At that time, I was doing a lot of Investment Banking recruiting for an Associate role. This was a director at Guggenheim.
Just get the MBA, you'll enjoy the experience
MBA experience so much better. However if you don't want to relive college I can see why you don't want to do it
Get a real MBA and change your life while having the most fun 2 years you've ever had!
Consultant1, it was but it wasn’t exactly easy. I summered in IB at a regional banks NYC office. I was unluckily assigned to a poorly performing group. At the end of the summer, they didn’t offer me the full-time position. The VP in my group was let go 3 months after me because the MDs really weren’t bringing in any deals. Who knows, maybe it was my performance, though I thought I killed it, and that’s what my feedback said too. Anyways, after not getting a return offer, no bank wanted to touch me. I applied everywhere. Eventually after 165 apps and 70 interviews with 30 companies, I ended up getting an offer in the strategy group at Cognizant so I went for it. Just started a month ago so let’s see how it goes. So far I’ve been on the bench supporting other projects as a non-billable resource. Hoping to get staffed soon.
Consultant1, Thanks! Pre-MBA, I had 7 years of tech implementation consulting experience specializing in MS SharePoint. All over the place with employers and clients. Some Accenture, some boutique, some freelancing. Some federal clients, some non profits, some law firms, and a tobacco client. Happy about where I landed post-MBA, but the hustle never stops I suppose. Always looking for the next thing!
Consultant1, Of course! SHP847 (at) gmail
If it's more CS oriented, talk to the students. They have regular info sessions.
Cognizant1, where were you interviewing where they laughed at you?
SA1, who cares what you think
Cognizant1, why wasn't NYU Stern's MBA enough to get you in the door for IB?
Cognizant1, good hustle! What was your pre-MBA industry?
Can I connect with you via burner email?
Cognizant1 just sent you an email! Thanks again
