Anyone else’s spouse just not actually know what you do for a living? Last night my wife asked me what my job actually is and I asked her to tell me her understanding of it first… it was a bit off. She’s a SAHM and likes that I am a high earner and doesn’t really care what I do, and my job is a bit niche, but I feel like she should be able to explain that to people if asked. Anyone relate?

Do you care to understand / could you explain what being a SAHM actually entails? Can she talk to you about the stresses and challenges of her role?

If it matters to you that she shows more interest and understanding in your work, have you talked to her about that?

Do you openly share what you do with her…your wins, challenges, and the parts of your day that weigh on you? That kind of communication can bridge a lot of disconnect. Being a SAHM can be overwhelming, but I’m sure she would appreciate feeling included in your world and being someone you turn to for support.

If you feel distant because she doesn’t understand your work, chances are she may feel distant too. Try being intentional about connecting—not just a quick “here’s what I did today,” but real conversations where you both listen to understand, not just respond. Don’t take it too personally just yet, start with communication and see how much that changes things.

My husband has no idea what I do, I don’t even know exactly what I do lol

My husband has a rough idea, but couldn’t get into details. He has his own business as a carpenter that is way more impressive and interesting. I only talk about work on high-level terms, and that‘s enough to be able to gossip and blow off steam when needed. Otherwise I keep the fine details of work at work, and honestly it’s easier to turn off at home when I do that.

Well….
So much to unpack here and I have so many judgemental questions that I will attempt to maneuver around.
Have you told her how important it is, to you , for her to know the type of work you do?
Why would she not care about the work you do?
Maybe this question should have been explored before you married her? However, sometimes a conversation is all that is needed. She asked you for a reason!! Think of this as a teachable moment instead of being disappointed!

Which part of this bothers you most? The fact that she doesn’t understand what you do or the fact that she doesn’t seem to care? (Or something else?)

So it’s the part of her not caring that matters to you? Have you told her how you feel?

Based on some of your other responses it sounds like you wife knows you're a lawyer at XX company. I've read your description of what you do and it isn't that fascinating to someone who isn't involved in it. What else do you want her to know/say beyond the basics?

Note: I lead ethics and compliance for a large organization. I can't talk about details at home. My husband basically says I'm a lawyer and where I work. That's sufficient for me.

Interestingly I used to be an E&C attorney so my wife told the person that asked that I did something with compliance. It’s not entirely wrong but I’m now back in Legal as Product Counsel instead of E&C as Compliance Counsel.

I have been searching for job from quite a long time and all I have seeing HR/Panels asking for
1. Number of implementation projects done.
2. Work experience on S4 Hana.

And if I don't have atleast any one of these, I will not be considered.

Is it really that important ?

Being joined as a fresher - Is it really something that I can decide whether to be in support or implementation project ?

Is upgrading of ECC to S4 Hana in my hands ? And the difference is really that vast ?
