That's an awful idea, you should never refuse being staffed outright (or through something like this.)
The only way to avoid being staffed on a project is to be put on another. Does your friend have a manager or director who can pull him onto a project? If not, and they're just chilling on the bench, they don't have standing to refuse a project. That's basically saying "I refuse to work" and I've seen PwC associates fired for exactly this.
I think if you would actually fail the test bc drugs, it's better to use that option than to fail the test, which wastes valuable time finding another resource and could make PwC look bad. I've still never seen a drug-related issue. It's something that really shouldn't come up as you usually have notice you're rolling off your last project.
I once indicated to an MD I trusted that I should avoid being staffed at a client because of the drug test policy. Nothing came if it. I also knew where the person likely stood.
No, I normally stop smoking a couple weeks before I roll off a client so I can pass a drug test. I'd recommend that approach, which I think many consultants follow.
I don't think it's an official reprimand, but I think you'll have frustration from people who wanted to staff you.
Well it's mainly bc my friend doesn't want to join this project (for many reasons) but it seems the only way to not join would be to refuse the drug test. Wondering how that would affect future staffing opportunities
Oof okay thanks for the info!!
Just curious why do they even give us the option to deny the test then?
Heard a story of this partner who just got back from holiday in Amsterdam so they let him wait a month to take the drug test, lol. Not sure how it would pan out for a junior level person
