You’d probably be on a contract for an agreed upon timeframe. Afterwards they can make the decision to renew or not.

Correct, you'll be a contractor. The upside is typically a higher net hourly rate, but you'll be on the hook for all taxes and benefits, PTO won't be a thing, and your employment will be at the whim of the company you're contracted with.

Yes, you’ll be considered a contractor and will receive a higher rate.
A close friend of mine just left Deloitte to do this. If you’re entrepreneurial it seems to work well for people. If you’re the traditional W2 employee it is tough to make the transition as the basic things you’re used to are no longer available.
However, you will not have any firm support or resources, you’ll have a fairly complicated tax situation, no 401k match or insurance.
Unsure if you’re USA but here in the UK, the gov introduced legislation (IR35) a few years ago making it harder to qualify as ‘self employed’ in these instances, effectively closing the tax loophole. Make sure you check IR35 status of opportunities if UK based
Where are y’all finding contract jobs? I’ve seen some at Deloitte and EY, but curious where else they’re available
