Weâve liked nationwide, my advice would be to start ASAP since we started at year 3ish and he already technically had preexisting conditions that werenât covered
Second starting ASAP since many have a 2 week waiting period

LOVE Nationwide. Super easy. No hassle. Iâve made my money back 2x over on my pup, who is 14 months.
Weekend = made
Aww I love him!

I always feel obligated to point out pet insurance is a bad deal for most people, especially people on this app that can afford a random vet visit.
Pet insurance has the high profit margins in the business (which means on average premiums>>>>claims). People's health insurance costs are mostly driven by end of life care (cancer drugs/assisted living/dementia). I personally wouldn't put my dog through that or other significant chronic disease.
Do the math on how much this insurance will cost over 10-12 years.
But you've got a cute puppy on your hands.
I self insure. After17 years of dog ownership I have never gotten close to the amount I would have had to pay in insurance.
Nationwide is the way to go!! I am ex Deloitte and kept it after I left. Get the Deloitte corporate rate - it ends up being about $100 a month but they cover 90% of all expenses. So worth it - especially for the peace of mind
Not quite your question but we are very happy with Pets Best insurance. Literally one emergency vet visit made it break even (because they needed to do an x-ray).
I found that insurance was worth it year 1, maybe also year 2 (teenagers will do stupid stuff, and for many dogs their bones are still growing) but probably not any later.
I would 2nd Pets Best. Have always had good experience with them.

I have Trupanion. My pup who is 4 months old unfortunately has very sensitive belly. We had to go to the vet 4 times since I got him deal to this as he reacts negatively to new food like treats. They cover 90% of my bill (exclude exam fees) and deductible was applied to only the first visit since deductible is per condition and not per year. They also cover prescription food (50%) and that really helps us with food cost since prescription food is hella expensive. It is totally worth it for me especially since I expect more vet trips to ultimately figure out what my pup is allergic to.

Trupanion! 90% coverage and they do it per condition or accident for the LIFE of your pet. I can refer you if interested!

They also send the doggo a Trupanion ID (to be worn on collar or harness). The ID is reverse searchable and will link to your contact info if your pet ever gets lost/missing.
On average insurance is going to cost more than what you get out of it. Otherwise the insurance business model does not work :)
I do have insurance (nationwide) through my employer. It is pricey but has (unfortunately) paid off. A key benefit of insurance for me is that it completely takes away the hesitation of deciding to go the vet or not. You just go because it is covered.
We have nationwide and I love them. Super fast and great on call vet technicians that even call back the next day to check in.
THANK YOU ALL - appreciate your insights. Going to try Nationwide since I have an autopay option through employer payroll
