I am not sure it’s that dramatic. If she was hands on, this acquisition will give her even less control, more constraints. I always heard she enjoyed the start up culture so perhaps it was the reality of what’s happening didn’t fit what she really enjoyed about her role. Lucky when you have the options and opportunities to design your own destiny.
This take is the correct one. At the end of the day I think it was multiple factors. She didn’t get pushed out.
Barring a scandal which clearly does NOT apply here, no one leaves the C-suite unless they’re forced to or to retire. She was no doubt pushed out by Conglomicon and paid very well to do so.
Good on her for starting her own thing.
Renee left the C-suite once before and was definitely not pushed out then - or now. Watch her as she builds another hugely successful agency.
(I can also think of others who left their C-suite roles without being pushed out, it's not uncommon at that level.)
The way Omnicom has been moving, I wouldn’t be surprised if she were let go or given an ungodly ultimatum
Also some Real Chemistry folks, not just IPG…
Hahaha, such a dramatic chat.
Someone offered more money or a possible better upside. She took it.
Stop overthinking. Stuff.
There are investors. Or do you think she’s putting her own money on it? Yes, the upside is that she now OWNS a % of that thing and, when she sells it for a network in a couple of years, she will put some good million dollars on her pocket.
You are thinking only about titles. President at Area 23 is only a job at IPGH. If they sell it she doesn’t take a dime.
She sounds cool. Is her new agency hiring?
Yes
She will always win.
Coach
She’s not the only IPG leadership role that has recently left and mentioned going to a start-up on the way out the door. Two people, at two different agencies, leaving for the same reason made me wonder if they were given a buy out. Or it was just good timing for the both of them and they were tapped for their expertise since they’re both going to Fifth Element.

My guess is timing. Renee is a real life free or die type of person. And she has done the start up thing twice before, successfully. Why not go again instead of dealing with all the drama and irritations of Omnicom? It’s on brand for her.
Looks like she is putting together a really great team.
More will be coming, just wait.
Wonder if Dana has told senior leadership that she can’t protect them through the Omnicom acquisition?
You’re not informed. Dana is running the whole operation. One of the reasons IPG was acquired was for her.
She saw what all other senior leadership at IPGH saw before the acquisition: that everyone would either be forced out or forced to become a cog in an even more bureaucratic, inefficient monstrosity than IPGH was. So she left to join an environment where she has proven to be effective in the past.
Interesting. Who stepped into that role?
She is very far from brilliant. She is one of the worst strategic planners I’ve ever come across. I don’t know how she got this job
What’s her role in the new start up? The article I read didn’t mention if she was co-founder or President.
@DDB Health 1 She is Group President same as she was at Area 23
Given her well earned track record, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was an HR situation which triggered her exit.
