Anyone have any tricks on quickly picking up on tax provisions, audits, compliance, and basic accounting? It’s been like stepping into a whole different planet from consulting lol.

I’m sure it comes with practice. Also, I recommend looking at the resources your firm has. If you’re at a Big 4, they may have trainings and other resources

I’m in tax and been working on audits and provisions for two years! It comes with time and practice on different engagements really.

A book I found helpful while attempting to learn accounting principles in law school is “Accounting Made Simple” by Mike Piper, CPA. It explains a lot in less than 100 pages

First year lit associate here. I had a tough time deciding between corporate and lit and chose lit because I wanted to litigate. Its only been a few months but I’m not enjoying the people or the work as it turns out (too many internal investigations and researching obscure issues, haven’t been on a single filed case yet). Anyone else in lit lateral early on in their careers?

Anyone have any worst interview stories? 100% bombed one yesterday, essentially just because I wasn't well prepared enough and I was super nervous. Knew what I wanted to say and said none of it, pretty sure I blacked out for at least some of it. Tell me I'm not the only one, (!!) or tips for self confidence are also welcome.

As a law student interested in going into the field I’ve seen a lot of negative comments saying that only lawyers who couldn’t get into big law go into PA. Although I know most people try to get into big law initially, it is very competitive and many don’t stay past 2-3 years. You certainly don’t make as much going into PA as a lawyer but the pay is certainly not bad and the WLB is generally much better. Can anyone speak to how they got into PA and if you would rather be working in Big Law

I love international tax (in core) and don’t mind compliance at all but it’s been nearly 100% of what I do. Any ways of balancing out with more structuring/planning?
