Anyone from EYP…I’m applying to “Strategy & Transactions Working Capital Consultant/Senior”. I have the experience, six sigma, PMP etc stated in the description. How can I proactively position myself to earn the interview? I’m afraid I might get auto rejected because I have way more than 2 years experience, but I know industry experience is weighted different. Appreciate any help, insight, or anyone willing to chat. I’m in a similar position. Are there any former consultants who decided to go down the finance route on here? Would love to chat if you’re willing to share your experience!
Wait, aren’t you meant to figure it out before you apply?
I get that sometimes you say what makes the most sense to get you admitted, but it’s expected you’d have at least narrowed down your options by now.
Yep, pretty common.
I know a consulting manager who said they wanted to go back, but actually wanted to move to VC. Their app would be dead in the water if they were truthful, so they weren’t, but they knew they wanted VC and would fall back on tech if they couldn’t land it.
I really think it’s important to narrow it down early, you might not have time to figure it out otherwise.
This smells like a GSAP-er…anyhow here’s a dirty secret no one likes to say.
You don’t have to go back- you can negotiate a sign in bonus. This means if you interview, you negotiate for the non-sponsoring company to pick up your grad school tab.
I know a GSAP-er who just did this and BCG picked up the tab for her grad school.
That being said, you also have the option to go to another company and get a signing bonus to cover a chunk and pay for it on a loan.
Your comp track is probably higher than going back to the employee that is sponsoring you.
Unless you’re going to banking, probably a bit too early. Tech, for example, they give offers pretty close to the summer, and i believe recruitment happens in the spring

Great question! Also confused. Go for the ol’ reliable consulting machine hoping for MBB or take a bold gamble for VC
Did a two years masters.
There will likely be a recruiting fair/career week at the beginning of second semester.
Having said that, it’s never too early to start networking and finding that role. I landed my google summer internship before the deadline mid semester. They were still offering internships in June for the summer.
Know lots of people who also did part time work in first year and multiple internships in second year. Depending on the school it’s easier to do more work in second year as classes following a different schedule with block weeks, evening classes, etc as you’re selecting as opposed to a fixed curriculum.
It’s unusual but is possible to have a company pay your break off fee (basically paying for your course fee like any sponsorship). I know one person who did it with an oil & gas company but I don’t know if he had a full sponsorship or partial.
