Hours worked is certainly a factor but not the only factor (at least at KPMG). Performance, specialization, etc. are factored in as well, so yes it is possible to get a relatively good bonus without putting in crazy hours. Typical amount is going to vary largely by group. My experience is just as a staff/senior, and in my group the bonus is a very negligible part of total comp (think about $5k for a reference point). Some groups it’s substantially more, others less.

As I said the % is backed into and there are a plethora of macro and micro factors, but if you need a reference point, think anywhere from 6% (leaning towards both bad macro and micro) to 15% (great micro and macro). Just because less people are eligible for bonus doesn’t mean they’re going to throw more dollars into the the pool.

As a law student interested in going into the field I’ve seen a lot of negative comments saying that only lawyers who couldn’t get into big law go into PA. Although I know most people try to get into big law initially, it is very competitive and many don’t stay past 2-3 years. You certainly don’t make as much going into PA as a lawyer but the pay is certainly not bad and the WLB is generally much better.
