I mostly work on civil, but have handled a couple criminal tax matters. It's a completely different animal. Happy to chat about it. Any specific questions?

I’m curious about the practice in general.

This seems like the sort of high stakes, high dollar matter, that might justify expensive attorneys, but I don’t see any big firms that seem to do much of this.
You mention that civil tax is a different animal. Is it different enough that criminal defense attorneys are better suited to the work, then general tax controversy attorneys?

I applied for a job and received an offer from my client. 15k+ bump in salary, better benefits/remote work, and responsibilities will give me exposure to all areas of the organization (start up). The problem is that they’re looking to staff me as a Senior when I’m currently a Manager at DT. They said they’re flexible on title, but curious to hear how others have navigated similar situations. I would report directly to the controller and have 1-2 staff reporting to me...

Any T&E associates in here who I could talk to? I’m a transactional tax associate at a v5 firm doing M&A and capital markets work and hating it. I’m a 4th year with an LLM and a clerkship and I think I regret not pursuing T&E or private wealth.

Firms I’m considering: Latham, Gibson, Sidley, Goodwin, Milbank. Thank you all!

If we are talking asset class that isn’t really like marketable securities but might be able to treat it similarly solely by virtue of, say, valuation on a quarterly basis (contd)

Hi all! I’m applying to NYU tax llm and I’m pretty confident I can get in,but it’s unlikely I’ll receive a scholarship. I’m working at a non big4 consulting firm for about 1.5yrs now, doing mainly international with some M&A exposure. I want to do llm because I still want to shoot for biglaw. I have a small kid so it’ll be hard to do the program part time. Should I quit my current job and enroll full time? Meaning lose 1yr salary and taking on a job security risk. TIA!
