Well you’d have a commission and sales quota, so there’s that. I’m told Salesforce is culturally inclined to let you go if you miss your quota in consecutive periods
Former sales guy here.
It’s about the territory, your manager, and how hard you want to work.
Sales is feast or famine. Its also like partnership. Not everyone get the $1M paycheck and those can take multiple cycles to hit. Anything over your base comp plan and is subject to management approval. Plenty of stories out there of sales reps landing huge deals only to be screwed. If that isn’t happening to salesforce that’s good to hear.
I know a former salesperson for Salesforce, and he made enough money to buy an island. Culture is great from what I hear.
Are they bringing you in as field or inside sales? I’m assuming it’s the latter. If that’s the case, you can’t compare to the $1M field sales numbers others are referencing.
Ask about the territory, your quota and expectations. Ask how you many reps you map to and who you are expecting to support. Ultimately it’s all about your manager and the nature of the sales organization.
I brought in a salesforce sales team to do a demo for my team last week and they name dropped like 16 clients (and how many licenses they bought) in the span of the 2 hour demo. Super unprofessional
Neighbor works for them. He seems to love it but is SUPER busy and stressed all the time
C1 - Sound like younger guys, yea that’s pretty unprofessional. PwC1 - More stressful than consulting perhaps?
SC1 - Holy crap, that’s crazy. Yea I guess some of them hit $1M a year. I wouldn’t expect that obviously. I would be just fine with a little more than what I make now...if the job was fun and had a good team.
BCG1 - Is sales experience good to have in general? How did you like your experience?
It depends a lot on your manager too. Friend worked there and her manager (a woman) gave new leads only to women and was always saying that her manager was trying to help women succeed. My friend was loving it bc she made bank but she saw three guys get fired from her team within two months
SC1 - wow...unreal
I mean, I’m sure that’s not common though
A1/SC1 - What questions should I ask the hiring manager? And HR/recruiters?
A1 - Field - would be pre-sales, but not “the first call” type of sales. More introducing new products, and facilitating warm leads from the reps a couple levels below me.
Sounds more product specialist role? Are you responsible for the full account or a specific product line? Or are you functioning as an overlay? Understand the compensation structure.
A1 - Still have some questions to ask for sure. But yea it would be introducing new products/opportunities to existing customers and also closing deals on new customers. And then I assume hand off over to the implementation team wether that be a consulting firm or internal implementation.
