They're called two-bedrooms.
Extremely rare to have them. Usually they won’t have windows. Otherwise like A1 said, you need a 2 bedroom

We found a place that had a dining alcove and then hung barn doors to close it off.
455 W 37th has some 1 beds with an alcove/bonus space
Try searching by minimum square footage or using keyword search for floor-through apartments (lots of railroad apartments have a windowless closet less non-living room space)

Yeah, railroad apartments could be an option since they’ll likely be cheaper than a true 2, though you’re more limited in locations since they’re rareish outside of the villages
Usually deco buildings, built in the 1920s, have a dining nook that realtors will call a 2nd bedroom. Look in Hudson Heights and Inwood for that age of building. I’m sure other hoods too but those are the ones I know.
Try looking at apartments labeled “Junior 4”. It’s basically a 1br with a small second bedroom that’s more appropriate as an office/den.
Symphony house has a studio with an alcove…. It’s basically a big bedroom in addition to the living room without a wall. Great deal
