Networking. It's who you know. My daughter's a lot older but a few schools knew her because I networked at school fairs and her school admin counselor has good relationships with many private schools in the area.
She turned them all down for boarding schools. Said she wanted to get out of the city.
keep applying. my two daughters had to apply a couple times for Westminster.
Thank you! This is helpful advice.
Did she get in elsewhere? We are applying next year and getting very nervous about how competitive it is
She got into Holy Innocents, which we are happy with and can stay till 12th grade. But I was shocked at how competitive for kindergarden it is. It’s also basically a full time job for 2 months between tours, essays, meetings etc.
I have two children at Westminster and was a grad of Lovett
Overall, if you want to go to one of the private schools you need to know WHY you are sending them there
If the answer is “To get into a top college…” or especially “To go to UGA”, then do not send your kid there. Colleges only want a small percent of students from the same school. You will be competing against super star students at Westminster. Unless your kid gets above 1500 and had straight A’s, you will have a tough time. A so so student from Valdosta has a better chance to get into UGA than a solid student from Westminster.
what makes Westminster a good school is that every student wants to be there. There are zero fights in the hallways. Zero kids disrupting class. Everyone works their ass off. The kid also leaves with high expectations of what they can do in life.
Westminster is an extremely tough school. College level.
UGA doesnt care about that. They are now going preferential treatment to rural students. You are better off moving to the boonies...
