It's not a trend at all, it's a complete burden on my family for me to have to be gone 60 hours a week, but I do it because I want my kids to have food on the table and shoes that actually fit them. It's insulting to hear that people think this is some kind of hobby or fun trend that people are embracing

I completely understand! The people calling it a trend are rolling around on their piles of $100 bills with little care and not experiencing what Joe Lunch-bucket is on a daily basis. I think that's why trust between boss and employee has disintegrated. I hope your situation gets better!
I'm not sure you know what overemployment means. It's when a person is working to full time jobs at the same time, during the same hours. It became much more common during covid because the fact that managers didn't know how to effectively track work loads on people suddenly working remotely, or how to load balance employees. You are telling two companies that you are at their undivided disposal for 8 hours while really splitting the time and in general it works because other people on your team/departments pick up the slack for your lower production. What you seem to be talking about it moonlighting or a side hustle, which are totally different things.

I understand what overemployment is, and I am working remotely, so I do have more than one job (employer).
What I don't understand is the characterization that it is a "trend" and these comments generally come from upper management that do not comprehend the necessity for it or the desire to do it.
Definitely a necessity
