Well, if they’re promotions or more “prestigious” companies I think it’s an easy story to tell. If they’re lateral moves it looks bad if it’s too frequent but it’s a very thin line given the current employment environment. Given how companies are behaving, why wouldn’t you jump for more money for the same role?
I genuinely despise recruiters, I find them to be largely incompetent and deeply unfair. Seriously, companies are hiring people and laying them off months later after they make cross country moves and the recruiters are asking why tenures are short??
I assume at some point it has to look bad if you've moved a lot. I always assume that people stay in a position for three years or so, at that point they may have done what they could and it's time to move on. If it's looked like someone hopped purely for the money, and did it frequently, that can be a problem, it makes them look like an obvious flight risk.
I think 2 years at each company is respectable
I've job hopped pretty consistently every two years for pay. It has never really hurt me. I barely get asked about it and I think that is partially because job hopping is so much more common now.
