At what point should you withdraw from consideration for a position? Considering an in-house position and been through a few rounds of interviews. Have a few more coming up, but for a variety of factors, feeling like there’s a 90% chance I wouldn’t take the job if offered. Should I withdraw? Self conscious that I might be wasting everyone’s time

Personally, unless you are in the same part of the process or recently have been with a few other companies, I would follow through with the rest of the process just for the interview experience. Maybe you wouldn’t take this job but going through the interview process and even the negotiation process could be helpful for interviewing with a company you’re more serious about latter. But if you’ve already gotten plenty of that experience recently, then I would just withdraw.

I’ve withdrawn when I felt very confident I wouldn’t accept the position if offered. If you’re 90% sure, think about what you’d need to fall within the 10% chance you’d take it.

I just had this issue. Was 90% sure I wasn’t going to want this job after first round but the later round interviews actually solidified that I didn’t want it (think it was clear I wasn’t a good fit for what they wanted). I continued with the full process though (another 3rd/final interview) and just used it as interview prep. I ended up getting two other offers afterwards so think it was time well spent. Helped me really drill down my messaging. On all my interviews afterwards my recruiters said I presented really well and polished. I did not formally withdrawal from the first one but it just languished. I assume I’ll get the rejection email at some point.

I was in this position and dropped out before the last round where I was pretty sure I was about to get an offer. Obviously not positive that would have happened, but they were shocked that I was dropping out and tried to incentivize me to keep interviewing - very weird. I knew the job wasn’t for me and I didn’t want to waste my time or theirs. Ended up with an offer in house a few months later that was the right fit.

A long post: seeking some perspective. My husband of 2 years that I’ve been in a relationship with for more than 8 years just woke up one day and told me that he’s unhappy in our relationship. I’m devastated because he’s never expressed anything like this in the 8 years. He’s been super supportive and loving, even when we were in a long distance relationship. He supported my career and dreams and this just doesn’t make sense. We have gotten a counselor but things aren’t getting better. Comment>
