Hi all! Is anyone here in Underwriting? Just want some thoughts on this as i’ve recently gotten an offer for an Underwriting Associate position and have never done any salary negotiations before. Does it seem unrealistic for my counter offer to be 12k more than the original offer? Considering that the original offer is roughly 8k less than the market salary. Career advice?

I'm a relatively junior data engineer (2yoe), the only other engineer (senior) that trained me left about a 6 months ago and I negotiated a nice raise for the extra responsibilities.

My performance reviews have been stellar, but my manager is starting to look to hire a senior to help me deliver projects as we do lack capacity right now.

I feel like I might be missing an opportunity to ask for a promotion and hire a junior instead.
