Man, that's a ton of expertise! You've got serious value there, especially mixing outpatient orthopedics and long-term care/nursing homes (SNFs).
From what I pulled together on recent data (mostly 2025 figures from sites like Salary.com, Indeed, ZipRecruiter, and BLS-related stats), here's a realistic breakdown for the Roanoke, Bedford, and Lynchburg areas in Virginia: Statewide average for PTAs in Virginia is right around $65,000–$70,000 per year (roughly $32–$34/hour). That's the median across all experience levels.
In your specific regions (southwest/central VA), it's a bit lower than northern VA or bigger cities, landing closer to $60,000–$68,000 on average
Roanoke: Around $60,000–$65,000 (some sources show hourly at $29–$37, with Indeed postings averaging $37/hour recently).
Lynchburg: Similar, about $61,000–$65,000.
Bedford: Pretty much in line with those, around $59,000–$63,000.
But here's the key; with 26 years under your belt, you're way above average.
Experienced PTAs (10–20+ years) often push into the 75th–90th percentile, which means $75,000–$85,000+ is realistic, especially if you're in a skilled nursing facility (SNFs/long-term care tend to pay a notch higher than pure outpatient ortho—sometimes $2–$8/hour more from what I've seen in general trends).
Outpatient orthopedics can be competitive too, but SNFs/home health often edge out for higher base pay due to demand.
