Back when I worked in an office, taking a sick day was a huge deal. My manager always panicked and made a big fuss about covering for me. Now that I’m fully WFH, I feel like nobody even notices when I take a sick day. It’s kind of refreshing.

I’m not sure if it’s Wfh vs in-office or just a difference between companies. Anyone else relate?

Totally. I think it's a company-to-company thing for sure though. When I was in-office, taking a sick day meant scrambling to hand off tasks and getting side-eyes for missing meetings. In my current role, which is fully remote, I log it in Slack, rest, and things keep moving. It’s made a huge difference in how I view my work-life balance because I feel like I can get stuff done while I take care of myself at the same time.

Totally get that. It’s wild how much of a difference it makes when the culture actually supports rest, feels so much healthier all around.

Taking a sick day, even being in the office, isn’t a big deal where I’m at. However, taking a vacation is derailing the whole company. We may never financially recover type of energy.

Oh yeah, that is one thing I really enjoy. But at the same time, I also feel weird and awkward about taking a day off when I'm just going to be home anyway. I sometimes push myself to work through my sicknesses so that I don't get perceived as being lazy or something. It's kind of a double-edged sword.

I’ve noticed this also! I’m not fully WFH but these days, rescheduling an office day is more dramatic than a sick day

100%!! My company is results based so as long as the work is done they aren’t bothered where or when you do it! We have the exact same, we usually pop a message into the groupchat saying we won’t be on too much today etc and it’s not an official sick day. It works so well and I don’t feel the anxiety around feeling guilty for being sick

Yes, I totally feel that too. The guilt can creep in even when you know rest is the right call. It’s such a weird mental shift to make when your office is also your home

Hi there -
I applied to an experienced consultant position at Bain and just heard back. Yesterday, I received an invite to a HireVue one-way interview to complete. Today, I received an invite for a coffee chat with a consultant. I’m of course going to do both, but the emails make it seem like they are almost two separate paths/disconnected processes. Can anybody offer some insight into each of these/the process?
