Besides the others mentioned here I’ve heard good things about Arctery’x and Triple F.A.T Goose. Both are pricier than TNF, Patagonia, etc but cheaper than Canada Goose

Triple fat is marketing hype. Go for arc teryx well worth it
Do yourself a favor and give Oros a consideration (https://www.orosapparel.com/collections/mens-2021)
Interesting / innovative company tackling cold weather with slim products (and stylish). The Orion parka is amazing!
I like these
You can get 3 coats for various states of weather from the thrift store until you decide on what suits you best. Canada Goose isn't worth the money unless you want a status symbol.
I'm from Chicago too and have a Navy reefer, a Helly Hanson ski jacket, and various fall/spring jackets to suit any temp.
If you still want luxury, to Moose knuckles....However, you can get a great option at Macy's for a 3rd of the price
Anything feather down. Doesn’t have to be boujee. Also this isn’t the time to be buying one. It’s usually on mad sales right after winter
I have an American Giant hoodie and a Carhart. That’s all I’ve ever needed in my 8 years here and I’m a southerner.
Eddie Bauer’s Superior Down jacket. They’re made for temps up to -30. Great quality - my husband has had his for 8 years and it’s just now getting to the stage where he needs a new one. Just ordered a replacement today for $174.50 (50% off) - hurry while they’re on sale!
I got an Eddie bauer for around $200 or less. Long coat and it’s been worth it. Has lasted me many winters. Also lands end has some really good quality coats as well. Lands end has an outlet that’s worth checking out as well if you have a car
Have had Columbia and North Face in the past. Canada Goose has been way warmer than those. Yes, it is more expensive. But definitely worth the price tag when it comes to the harsh temps that we get.
Duluth Trading makes some quality stuff. They run sales all the time so get on the mailing list.
Eddie Bauer
Very happy with my big Patagonia. I think it was $500
… LL Bean.
Look Columbia that goes past your waist. Love mine, got at Burlington Coat Factory over 10 years ago. Better yet, check out used, too.
I recently picked up a Helly Hansen coat for skiing and while it is more sporty than professional I've been blown away by how well it's dealt with this afternoon, tbh. And this is about as blustery as I'd expect to go out in (maybe a bit colder, but the snow and wind is the rough part imo)
I love my Save the Duck coat! It’s my go-to
Aritzia super puff men’s. It’s so cute/trendy and $270, goes down to -22F temps
Every year people get mugged for their Canada goose jackets…I wear a Columbia with Omni tech and it’s lasted me 4 winters already. And it’s 1/4 the price.
I’d ignore the comment from D3 - my CG is cozy, comfortable, and they definitely have stylish options - it all depends on what YOU like. I moved to Chicago from the south and only learned of the brand after hearing it recommended from locals to survive winter. Easily one of the best well-being investments. It does great to keep the arctic cold out without making you overheat or sweat (my pet peeve of other coats). Would buy again / recommend. I have the Langford (28M).
