If you are making a cocktail, you don’t need something high-end/expensive. Something like a Sazerac Rye, Bulleit, or Rittenhouse will be fine.
Woodford Reserve Rye mixes well and isn't too expensive to be mixing. It's great on its own if you like a good peppery rye.

Willet rye is the only answer
Liquor store person recommended this so I went with it 🤞
Pikesville is a good option, the store did not lead you astray. Good amount of proof to hold its own in cocktails, good enough as a sipper, and not too pricey.
My top three in order of preference are Willet family estate, Jack daniels single barrel select and whistle pig. FWIW I normally drink three neat but I don’t see why they wouldn’t make a great cocktail.
Like Crowe 1 says you don’t need something super expensive though. I wouldn’t reach for one of these for mixing.
Have heard very good thing about sagamore rye
Thank you!
From lowest to highest of these recommendations:
Bulleit Rye, Templeton Rye, Whistle Pig, and for a nice adventure Basil Hayden’s Dark Rye
Chill your glass, go easy on the vermouth for any of these ryes, and a couple dashes of your preferred orange or Orleans bitters. Stir gently, pour, then twist or torch orange peel, and add a luxardo cherry (or three) for garnish
Relax and enjoy
