Hi fishes,
I am planning a switch so was going through some salary data for a software engineer. My ex-senior manager recommended me a website: Growceed.com which helped me a lot in getting clarification about a lot of things but I am in doubt whether the average salaries of software engineer mentioned on Growceed.com really that much in top MNC companies.
Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.
This guy has the worst posts…

“Tone policing is defined as "a conversational tactic that dismisses the ideas being communicated when they are perceived to be delivered in an angry, frustrated, sad, fearful, or otherwise emotionally charged manner." Managers striving to create a workplace based on equity and inclusion must understand how tone policing silences members of marginalized groups and allows discrimination to persist.” https://www-businessinsider-com.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/www.businessinsider.com/how-to-identify-and-help-stop-tone-policing-in-workplace-2020-8?amp

Worst: “Your attitude is toxic to the rest of the associates making everyone else think they’re unhappy here too. I’ll be taking that into consideration at your review. ” (hint, everyone was unhappy, it wasn’t because I spoke up and no other partners corroborated the opinion).
Best: “You show that you don’t just know how to work a case up well and know the law well and can be trusted to run your own cases with minimal oversight, but you show you know how to and are able to build your own relationships with clients and that’s exactly what we need to see to make you partner in the next few years” (said within days of the bad feedback).
That's so uplifting congrats on the likely well earned praise!!!
Worst, “I’m going to f*****g fire you.” Best, “Always think of yourself as the client’s lawyer, not the assistant to the client’s lawyer.”
Worst: tone police telling me to be nicer in emails.
Best: we rely on you to get deals closed. Things just get done when you’re on a deal.
My takeaway: Bitches get stuff done.
Worst: “lean in more”
best: everything said in my performance reviews every year prior to talking about bonus.
worst: everything said in my performance reviews every year about how despite an inordinate ratio of non billable (nonoptional) work to billable work, I've been generously granted a partial bonus. (my annual hours are generally far in excess of what's required for a bonus if it were all billable.)
always saw it as a red flag indicating that my bosses lack the political capital to get me a bonus i would probably receive if I were part of a more profitable practice.
now I see it as a likely indication they can't stop me from being in the first round of layoffs when they happen.
Best “feedback”: After reviewing my report to the client, the partner gave it back to me with zero corrections. No “good job” or “nice analysis”; just handed it back in silence with no edits or comments. I patted myself on the back when he left. Never thought I’d repeat something I learned in elementary school as a 5th year attorney but here we are!
Best (from a client after losing a motion hearing that we should have won): “You have a gift from God.” Like, wow.
Worst (from a judge I was clerking for, near the end of the clerkship): “What is going on with you?” after I wrote a much shorter memo than usual, per her instruction, but she forgot.
Worst: “Although you excel with client relationships, internally, partners feel you become obviously angry and aggressive when receiving constructive feedback” (weak male partner with a confident female associate here)
Best: “ Your analysis of legal issues is strong. Your writing is clear and succinct. Your verbal communication is confident and direct, yet personable. You remain organized amidst a diversity of deals and clients.”
Worst: you need to seriously work on your research skills.
Best: you are practicing way beyond your class level.
Funny to see these statements together. Lol
