What's the salary range for a director at the Gilead Sciences foundation? There is a position perfect for me, but I don't want to throw my hat in the ring if starting salary isn't $180-190k. Also, any thoughts on the stability of their philanthropic commitment? There's talk of a recession; I don't want to go private to be cute a few months later.
So… are any NJ/NYC people planning a meet up?! 👀

My whole background check process took 2-3 months. I didn’t notify my firm until after I got my interim clearance, which is also what DOJ HR advised me. I would recommend the same to anyone in biglaw. In my mind, the risk of being an easy axe during an already precarious job market is too high. Add to that the possibility that your clearance doesn’t come through. So I wouldn’t say anything to anyone (beyond maybe one partner who you may need to serve as a reference, whom the security folks may ask to contact to confirm employment) until you have your interim clearance in hand and a start date lined up. Even if that means you only give two weeks of notice, so what? That’s pretty standard and won’t burn any bridges. Post-notification life was glorious. I was immediately rolled off my matters (i.e., didn’t do anything substantive). I basically just called folks at the firm to let them know I was leaving and did various offboarding paperwork and tasks. I wish I knew how chill it would have been and I would have given more weeks of notice (after getting my interim clearance and start date, of course). If nothing else, make your last day the Monday or Wednesday after the Friday you may be initially thinking. That way, you at least get paid over the weekend to do nothing! Oh, and one more thought, you may have received your offer too early in the year to do this, but it’s worth considering whether you can push your start date into early next year (perhaps by taking a little extra time completing your security paperwork) so you can collect a year end bonus on the way out. Can’t hurt to consider it at least!
Thank you so much! This is super helpful. Hope you’re like the new job!
6 weeks. Notified OGC/select people as soon as I got an interview for conflict purposes and kept them in the loop—thought it would be a much longer process. Notified everyone who hadn’t already found out when I got interim cleared to start. My clients nearly all waived conflicts and I was doing substantive work and transitioning things until my last couple days
Yes. When they called I think they first offered me literally the following Monday. I negotiated and honestly I wish I would have pushed a little harder for some more time off.
Not Main Justice, but accepted an offer at a USAO. Is asking for a start date 60 days after interim clearance comes through asking too much? They do seem eager to have me start and I don’t want to ruffle any feathers/start out on the wrong foot.
Still need to submit my e-QIP, just completed it, I’m recent. They told me 6 weeks on the interim which seems to be in line with the most recent anecdotes I could find (they said they’ve had it happen as few as 3 weeks before). Does involve a move on my part. 2 months after clearance would be great if not asking for too much, feel like I need to detox from the toxicity of biglaw (and certain partners) and hike Norway or something.
