Bonus season is almost here, and are you feeling hopeful about the bonus number this year. It’s always interesting how quickly things feel different once the numbers are out, especially when they don’t quite match the effort you put in. If it comes in below expectations, how far off would it have to be before you start thinking about leaving?

Not hopeful, not pessimistic. I know what my bonus is going to be. It's decent. Not life-changing by any means, but it's extra money that I very much need. If the direct deposit wound up being anything less than what I'm expecting, I'd have my foot out the door immediately. Everything in my offer was spelled out in detail. There is zero reason the actual number should differ from what we agreed upon, and I have no reason to think it will.

Thanks for sharing. Did your offer actually spell out the bonus amount or how it’s calculated? That’s interesting to me, since most companies I’ve worked with or interviewed with keep bonuses pretty vague and tied to a lot of factors outside an individual’s control.

My number was fine, and I have no reason to complain. Some colleagues seem permanently discontented over bonus numbers, but I've never been offended by what I got. Even if that were to happen, I'm not sure that would be enough to push me out the door. And in this job market, that certainly wouldn't be reason enough to jump ship.

That’s a really level-headed take! And agreed that in this market especially, a bonus alone probably isn’t enough to make most people jump ship.

Won’t know until next earnings report next month

Hope you will get great news next month!

My company found reasons not to give everybody the bonuses they deserved this year. Waiting for my bonus and then going to look for a new job.

That’s rough, and I’d be frustrated too! Curious what was their excuses?

We will have two below average years in a row

Should be on target. I just invest it regardless of the amount so it doesn’t really bother me.

Need Suggestion.

I am the only developer in my team and my manager has assigned me a project in which I need to create a tool from scratch although that is currently running in production build by third party and we don't have access to that code.

I am on notice period and I am 100% sure that project won't be completed before my LWD.

What should I do, I asked him to put some extra team members but he didn't agree, seems like he will add extra team members 2-3 weeks before my LWD.
