If you don't ever need straps for back, lats, or traps, you aren't all that strong and/or or aren't going anywhere near failure.
Change my mind. :)
You are limiting yourself. I'm 48, 230lbs, and limit deads these days to 495 for reps due to a bad back.
I've got kids, too, but that has nothing to do with physiology or grip strength.
Gloves, however. That is where I start judging.
Just get a pumice stone
Don’t limit increasing volume work on your largest muscles because you need to work on grip strength.
It took me a while to get won over to straps but it makes more sense to do heavy deadlifts and then grip work than to just do light deadlifts limited my grip or to blow a bicep with switch grip.
Unless you’re a power lifter it’s probably fine.
I’d prefer chalk but my gym doesn’t allow it. I usually just use straps once my hands get sweaty and tired.
