It’s not petty. I keep a list of 6 people who reached out to me while I was employed and did everything I could to help them land work. But when I reached out to them 2 years later looking for help, not so much as an acknowledgment.
4 of them are now back on the streets due to the acquisition. I already ignored 1 of them and left their message on read… just like they did.

Throughout my career, I’ve never really known what’s best for people after getting laid off. I feel like it must be really raw right after it happens. So, I want to give people space. Then, when I go to reach out later, I wonder if it’s too late. So, I end up saying nothing at all.
Sometimes I get out of my own head and just do it. But, that’s only if I have a really strong relationship with that person. (Like hang out outside of work strong.) If not, that’s when I spiral on what’s appropriate and what’s not.
I do the same thing!
Not petty at all! What goes around..,
Saaaaame.
Eff them. They can eat a bag of ducks.

You’re in your own right not to help out. As sad as it sounds, it’s every man (and woman, and therian?) for themselves right now.
Not petty. If people want to treat you as disposable, that's their MO. But it works both ways. Sad how people act like you never existed.
