Seriously! A coworker is talking about her degree in history and she wrote her senior thesis on June Cleaver. How does she work at a B4? Of course, her Dad was the Partner's son's HS football coach.

Stop. All you need to work in Big 4 for the first two years is to know how to put up shit and manipulate slow software. Big 4 is easier than most firms because you are so far removed from interacting with clients and are so protected by levels of review from making any real mistake. Accounting is far from rocket science.

As long as she's cpa eligible it doesn't matter what her undergrad was. She clearly did enough accounting classes.

My husband has a history degree. He took the EA his second year at the firm, as a staff. He's a Sr Manager now, in Tax. Fortunately he had people who believed in him and gave him a shot. Stop judging.

^No accounting experience and not CPA eligible.

You answered your own question. Her dad is has some kind of relationship to a partner

Who the F is June Cleaver ? I wrote my thesis on Julius Ceasar ... I was a history minor and Computer science major. Big4 Tech Advisor!!

We had a psych major. Eventually she was unpromotable and got coached out. She was one of the worst employees I've ever seen. Connections got her the first job and resume got her the second. She got found out though.

Key positives for my current employer are pay and security. But my new role within the company isn't working for me, and ultimately I don't think it is for the company either.

A much much smaller (20 people) company offered me a role.

With the global economic situation as is, is it worth the risk to change to a job I know i'd like more with less pay, and potentially less job security?
