I don’t understand the predicament. What value do you place on making manager if the work itself is not what you want to be doing? You have an industry offer that appears to be positive, with growth/upward opportunities in the future. Why wait until manager to get some hypothetical “better” industry offer?
What I’m getting at...I don’t think your exit opps will be significantly better in 6 months just because you get promoted. You have to stay a few years at a level for your experience at that level to really matter.

Very good points. I shouldn’t be putting M on some pedestal.
I had the same dilemma but ultimately stayed in consulting. Some of my starting class left after 2 years and exited as Sr Manager in industry then made to Director level.
I personally wasn’t done with consulting so I stayed to see it through. I was mostly interested in the relationship building aspect and exposure to executives. I feel like I’m more confident that I got what i signed up to get out of consulting.
So do I ever wonder about what would’ve happened if I exited early? Absolutely. I could’ve gotten RSU / options at tech companies and ridden the stock market. But I could’ve also found myself stuck at somewhere hitting the ceiling in industry. Think about why you joined consulting instead of other possible career path post MBA and if you are not getting what you wanted, you shouldn’t waste time and start looking.

Thanks for your input and advice!

OP I'm in a similar boat, tho I don't have the offer yet. Disappointed at the difference between what consulting is said to be during recruitment vs reality.
I've opened up my LinkedIn so recruiters are aware I'm open and what my indicated interest are (if that even does anything). Don't plan to aggressively pursue outside opportunities yet due to COVID and sign-on bonus repayment clause.
From interviews I've had so far, it doesn't seem like the opportunities are drastically better just because you hit M. Prior industry experience has seemed to be more impactful - I'd assume something similar for you too.

Yeah, I had 8 years of industry experience before MBA, and like you I wanted consulting to allow me to pivot to another industry and/or different opportunities. The only door it opened is in project management in technical implementations, which is just not my bag. Seems like the industry jobs I’ve applied to like the consulting experience, but ask a lot more about my industry experience.
I’m not regretting anything, I do feel like I’ve grown, but it’s mildly disappointing. This game really is MBB or tech implementation nowadays.
I don’t think all recruiters necessarily know the consulting hierarchy and sometimes having M could help why you are going for SM or D title in industry. I think it makes it tricky for post MBA SAs and Ms since we did the similar work in consulting capacity as the mid to late 20s Ms from undergrad recruiting. But having said that, I agree that it didn’t always increase the quality of pipeline when I was looking in the past year after making to M
