If it’s anything like the rest of the world’s PE Ops teams, then it’s just like MBB consulting - stressful, tons of work, no help, lots of yelling, and no real ownership. Exit ops are usually to the PE owned port co’s.
Exposure is going to be great, exit opps most frequently to portcos
1. As a baseline, PE ops will be a bit more stressful and intense than consulting life. But that’s offset with autonomy and ability to really start making an impact
2. While there is some autonomy depending upon role / fund, You’re also generally reporting to people who don’t understand how it is you do what you do (deal teams) which is very different from consulting.
3. Vista has overhauled its value creation structure - used to have select members internal VC team + the captive Vista Consulting team (separate LLC). Now it’s all one value creation team.
4. Their latest fund is not doing too hot which has led to more pressure on VC teams and they def fired a chunk of the team across functions as part of the overhaul. Prob contributes to the negative comments you’ve seen
Thanks for sharing! What I saw on FB is almost all negative comments.😧 Also given the huge pay cut than consulting, do you think it’s a great opportunity to join them?
