Congrats graduates!! Wishing you all the best of luck as you begin your job hunt and working!!
Welcome
Yes, congrats to all the new grads. Now get to work and don't ask a lot of dumb questions. Haha, just kidding, dumb questions will be allowed. Once!
Advice to the Graduates that I had to learn the hard way (I was told, but I didn't listen)
1. May you always be employed, but layoffs happen. Build an emergency savings of 6 mo or more of your salary. And DONT TOUCH IT unless you have no income and need it.
2. Always keep your resume updated. Do it every 1 to 3 years minimum and maybe even post it every 3 years. You may be happy, well paid, etc...but you never know what is out there. You are a number to your company, if you leave, they will replace you in an instant. You can be good friends at work, but you are NEVER family.
3. Keep your linkedin profile up to date, same reasons
4. Fund your 401k. Make sure to at least get the full match, but I suggest maxing it out ASAP. Because if you increase it once a year when you get a raise, it will never seem like you get a raise. Once it's maxed, every raise will be a raise.
5. Pay more than the minimum on loans and pay them off. Highest interest rate first. When your bills are low, you can be ready for anything and have a ton of flexibility. You will never be "stuck" at a job.
6. Live BELOW your means, again, it's unlikely you will never be laid off.
You can ignore it and learn the hard way when these things happen, but I am just doing my part.
