Considering an “attorney development” role at a big firm. Currently midlevel at a big firm. I would be helping with career planning, reviews and staffing. The attorney development role is low six figures (less than market 1st year salary) and 9-6. I don't hate practicing law, just looking for better hours and long term viability. appreciate hearing from anyone who knows folks in similar roles.

I know several people in that role. They’re all former biglaw lawyers who wanted a better schedule for family reasons.

They seem happier than the average lawyer at the firm but it’s not really a true 9-5 job. It’s still a fairly time intensive job from what I can see. Just definitely not the same as being an associate right now.

I can also see it being a potentially frustrating job.

My concern would be how transferable your skills would be as well as the number of similar jobs. If you get fired or hate it, where can you go after this job? How easily will it be for you to move somewhere else if your firm decides it no longer needs this role?

Also outside of law I imagine the experience gained would be incredibly useful.

Just make sure you have proper support in place. The hours can be long regardless, but much worse if the department isn’t staffed properly. Happy to answer anything you want to know!

I accepted a new offer and put in my notice this week and my company provided a counteroffer. The offer is lower than my new offer but I know it’s the best they can do. Financially I do need the money but I’m also tempted to stay because my current team is so great. I have 2 questions 1) when does it make sense to prioritize workplace happiness/ balance over financial well-being? 2) if I go back on my offer acceptance should I consider that bridge burned?

Hi, just wondering how the staffing situation has been in strategy consulting in general? My sibling started a job in strategy in Silicon Valley 2 months ago after MBA. She has been on the bench for 2 months and was informed that there has been a shortage of jobs (within the job) and the amount of people on the bench is getting high. She has been under a lot of stress although she had many great networking calls with people. I wanted to help but can't identify what she can improve on.

"Everybody can be a leader" some say... "Leaders are nurtured not born" say others... True.

But... this is also true: "not everybody wants to be a leader" (whether they can or can't be). It is a fairly common practice in organizations with traditional career management structures for people to "be promoted" into leadership roles as the "end steps of the corporate ladder" that was climbed doing technical work. And, unfortunately, this doesn't work all the time
