I know several people in that role. They’re all former biglaw lawyers who wanted a better schedule for family reasons.
They seem happier than the average lawyer at the firm but it’s not really a true 9-5 job. It’s still a fairly time intensive job from what I can see. Just definitely not the same as being an associate right now.
I can also see it being a potentially frustrating job.
My concern would be how transferable your skills would be as well as the number of similar jobs. If you get fired or hate it, where can you go after this job? How easily will it be for you to move somewhere else if your firm decides it no longer needs this role?
Also outside of law I imagine the experience gained would be incredibly useful.
Just make sure you have proper support in place. The hours can be long regardless, but much worse if the department isn’t staffed properly. Happy to answer anything you want to know!
