Pros: your voice matters, your contributions matter, collaboration is 10/10, very much “one team one dream”, the wins feel huge, you’re not just a number
Cons: not much process/disorganized, relentlessly pitching ALL THE TIME, really long hours, 100% pedal to the metal
Pros if you get a good client they are incredibly grateful and open to new work and new ideas and it’s really rewarding shaping someone’s business from the ground up.
Cons if your client sucks and doesn’t have a crystal clear idea of who they are as a company they will spin the hell out of you, waste tons of time, and you ultimately will make nothing.

Everything Creative 1 said. I’ll also add that I found it easier to feel enmeshed when at a start-up. The founders and initial employees at the one I was at hung out ALL the time and expected new hires to as well as part of the culture. That personally was a living hell for me.
