It’s not gay people, it’s gay sex. It’s lumped in with premarital sex, it’s not really it’s own sin ‘category.’
The general position is that the point of sex is to create children, and the point of marriage is to create children in a healthy, stable, irrevocable environment. The first point (to make children) makes sex without an accompanying openness to having kids, a sin. The second point, makes premarital sex a sin, and makes gay marriage logically inconsistent
But there is no true moral difference, in mainstream Christianity (and Catholicism in particular), between gay sex and premarital straight sex. Gay people shouldn’t be harassed or vilified anymore than the boyfriend/girlfriend you know who are currently living together
It is exactly the case with any continued willful sin that becomes part of one's lifestyle. Everyone sins, but the Bible is clear that we should all be looking to repent always. If sin is your lifestyle, it's a problem.
What I was pointing out following your comment is that the problem with sin in general (and sexual sin in particular) is one's heart, one's rejection of God, one's lack of love for the other human being, and their own body. Not the lack of reproduction, per se. Homosexuality is special in this - Romans 1:18-32 is quite clear here. Homosexuality rejects God, his good design, and natural truth.
There’s a cultural obsession with religious objection to homosexuality, frankly because nonbelievers don’t understand God’s reasons for marriage nor God’s stance of manhood or womanhood. So gay people getting married seems like a trivial matter because marriage “isn’t” a holy matrimony nor a picture of Christ and the Church. It’s more of a legal agreement and a party with friends.
It’s an issue with unrepentant sin, plain and simple.
Unless they claim to be His. Then we are to judge and hold accountable.
Just because I FEEL anger does not mean I am an angry person and am permanently fixed to have outbursts of rage because 'God made me this way.' Just because I FEEL attracted to the same sex does not mean I am permanently fixed to engage in homosexual behavior and call it 'my identity.'
The Lord has created us in His image and has given us free will. He calls us to love Him and others completely. To identify with Him and who He says we are and has created us to be. Disobedience to His will is unloving and to continue in sin is rebellion in which He calls for repentance and self control.
Morals are set by the divine moral giver YHWH.
He created male and female in His image to have dominion of the earth and multiply. To choose to deny our God given identity and identify with a sinful desire/behavior that goes against His divine plan is immoral.
“If you love me, keep my commands. Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.” Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. God has rules.
Straight men can commit adultery
Gay people can engage in gay sex
people can kill other people
God is just and will throw our asses in hell.
We all lust and have demons. Repent and hopefully we will not be thrown to the lion.
