I was able to when I left my firm. I’d had the same phone for three years and they just let me keep it, no payout or anything.

These firms definitely make enough money to let go of an iPhone lol
Not sure if you can buy it from the firm, but you can definitely rent a phone and get a short-term data plan in the interim.
Seems unlikely; probably too much hassle on contract and data concerns to make it worth their while to accommodate. probably violates some written policy that nobody ever thought would be questioned.
I was allowed to keep my phone when I left my last firm (and it wasn’t even the most amicable separation). The issue is firm dependent but no harm in asking.
Hassle? Just buy a phone on eBay for a couple of hundred bucks if you’re that cheap.
I had the same issue when I lateraled several years ago, and my new firm set me up with a phone the same day I left my old firm even though I didn’t formally start until later. So that could be worth a shot too
