I think you can say that you have xyz on your plate and what they recommend you prioritize? One partner works with me for all of her work but I also work with others. She assumes I am waiting for her to give me work and I should drop everything for her calls and emails. If it’s just one partner and that’s the deal you signed up for, I don’t think you can say no, but you can say can I get this to you later.

Make $120k Accenture now doing tech implementations, just got offer 200k TC EY business consulting. I love my job, have a great WLB (working 20 hours per week, no travel, clear path to M in about 1.5 years) - am I an idiot for even contemplating staying? What I would be doing is more PPT/functional vs Onestream/technical which I do now.

I feel like this is a dumb question, but I work at a small local firm, and my salary is good (52k) for my area seeing a lot only make 30-40k. It’s a LCOL/MCOL area, but I am attempting to get into the housing market at 25 yrs old with no real debt other then my car (8k). Currently I am saving 12% of my salary into my SIMPLE, and another 5% into my savings account. Should I use my SIMPLE to help cover a down payment? Or just wait and save for another year or so?

So, I'm happy at my current job and have been there about 18 months. Our pay is probably 15% below market (AmLaw 100) but so are our billable requirements. An interview for another firm kind of fell into my lap, and I'm debating whether to take it just for the sake of seeing what market really is. Is there something shady about interviewing somewhere you're not totally committed to accepting an offer from?

V5 Legal Assistant here (2 years in industry, started at current firm in late April). I’m on pace for 2700 billable hours / year. To boot, that rate is going up because of all of the 65+ hour weeks lately, and the first month being billed around 40.

I was just told that I may not qualify for any bonuses because I haven’t been here for 1 year.

Is this normal? Am I crazy for thinking that I should be getting a *significant* bonus for all of the crazy hours and deadlines?

How would you ask to transfer to another office within your firm?

I lateraled from one firm in city A to another firm city B. During the interview process, I made a big deal about how I badly I wanted to be in B, despite only being barred in A. They hired me, paid for my bar courses, the works.

Now I find myself in a position where I need to leave B due to personal issues. Thinking of going to DCso I can just waive in.

It's been less than a year since I've joined; is it too soon to ask this?

If you had (1) a Big Law offer (year four) which would be a step up from your current firm or (2) could go directly in-house (which is your eventual plan), what would you choose to do? Get additional experience with bigger clients or move in-house?

I don't know who needs to hear this, but I have a few former classmates and colleagues sweating over lateral interviews. Take a deep breath and relax.

First, doing these interviews does not define you as a person.

Second, take it one day at a time; if they are moving forward, they see something in you.

Third, remember that the people interviewing you are human beings. Connect with them, be personable.
