Yes. I just felt really lost in big law for some reason. I was genuinely questioning my decision to become a lawyer at all. Then I went in-house and it was like night and day.
4th year. I got really lucky and found a company that was looking for someone more junior.
Keep in mind skillset in house is very different. Also there are many types of biglaw attorneys as well (technical vs. commercial vs. strategic vs. rule or process experts and so on).
Yes. Feel like I struggled in big law, despite getting good reviews. Lots of burnout. Went in-house and although it’s busy, I actually look forward to the work each day. Huge difference. Work slightly less than big law, but pay is also slightly less. I’m happy.
A3- Yes, absolutely. Hated the work. Constantly felt overwhelmed and underwater. Also hated billing. Much better now!
Yes, I was a high performer in the corporate world before I was a lawyer. I went into big law and hated it. I regretted making the career switch for all three of those years. I went in-house in my third year and I absolutely love it.
Depends on the company and role you exit to. If you move into PE, the environment will be similar. Run of the mill F500 company doing mix of m&a and commercial work? Very different. a good chunk of corporate America is laid back
