After the dismal covid response this was an expected distraction from the central govt.

CHinese won't know what hit them, stealth attack on China. MasterStroke, Digital Surgical Strike...
Calm down Arnab
This could be a blessing if India develops its own version of TikTok. Protection from Facebook, Twitter and Google allowed China to create it's own app ecosystem.

I wonder why some people don’t think along these lines. Like BIA1 above.

Good move. Chinese apps are adept at stealing data of Indians and sending it across to China. Next ban should be on phones like Huwei

US is not an enemy of India - wow, VP. Gotta rewind those history lessons you give out to everyone?
Micromax phones are mostly imported from China and some are assembled in India. Probably same is true for other brands.
I don’t know what CCP will do with customer level data. People in jobs that require security clearance should use official devices anyway.
Back to Ramayan and Mahabharata reruns haha ...

What? More like back to being productive. 😊
FWIW, the response could be much bolder. Hit them where it really pisses them off:
- start funding anti-China groups (HK democracy activists, Tibetan exiles, Uyghurs advocacy, Falun Gong).
-Pick more fights with Nepal given they are China’s proxy.
-launch counter cyber attacks against China SOEs
-more anti China rhetoric in global forums
Etc etc
This should have been the response. The current move is like throwing eggs on your enemy who is throwing bricks.
Tik Tok for sure. Someone just posted what they found while reverse engineering the app. The APIs alone should give anyone who values privacy pause on using it. Now, is it a nation statue issue? Not sure, but it’s so damn suspect.

If it’s banned, advertisers will slow down. That will eventually be a dent for its proliferation.
I don't use any of those 59 apps anyway and assume this may not be a huge deal for people in general. Still, we need to focus on the underlying messaging, which has shifted from pacifying the emotions to taking retaliatory steps, and that's worrying. It clearly shows tensions are high at LAC, and things may get worse from here.

Pacifying, assuaging and appeasement since 1947 is exactly why we are here staring eyeball to eyeball in 2020. You can't keep appeasing a bully. Look the bully in the eye and the bully will step back

Damn, I just hit 100 subscribers on tik tok.

Okay here we go. Trade war what is it good for. Absolutely nothing.
I think it is a good step and I am wondering why other countries are not banning Chinese apps. However, praising this as a bold step from Indian PM does not make sense to me. We have different standards when it comes to other nations who are not as strong as us. And this is too little too late!

I hope they follow through on this. It’s not the greatest of retaliations and while it hurts us the least it hurts China a wee little bit. The worst however would be if they retrace steps once China pushes back.
It's just AstroTurfing from the government. Aliexpress and Paytm are very much functional and supreme leader is their brand ambassador.
This is just a PR stunt to make him look less weak.
This is great for our youth, who waste a lot of time on Tik tok 😂
