Directors, DP’s, PD’s The Creative production peeps

Directors, a friend of mine is working on his reel, trying to get on a production company roster, ideally in San Francisco. Any suggestions or tips?

Become friendly with a production company they like. Do their best to start dialogue, and gain mutual respect. Additionally if they have agency ties and connection who will actually look at their reel and hire them as an independent that is a huge perk. Come to the table armed with connections a reel and talent And a good attitude

Shoot a great reel and network. Also work on becoming great at pitching treatments. I have seen weak directors land big jobs because they’re great with clients.

Bigger question and this is based on actual and personal experience is getting in the room to even pitch. ‘My great’ reel only gets me so far and makes competing with incumbents and connected peeps challenging...just saying
