Looking to move to San Antonio and we're looking at places in Alta Vista and El Dorado. Pros and cons? We have two kids under five, so looking for a nice family community with good schools.

We moved to Alamo Heights for good schools, good community. Since we had less than a month to make a move and get the boys right into school, there was no time to apply to magnets, etc. So we went for a sure thing.

like

that’s a good move! Good Restaurants over there too!

Does Alta Vista feed into Alamo Heights ISD? If so, that’s the move.

IMO (my SO grew up here so this is almost entirely fueled by his knowledge of school districts)…
NEISD and NISD are the two areas that are best. Stone Oak (Johnson HS) has a great school as well.

NEISD and NISD are school of choice, so you do have some leeway on where your kid will go if you’re willing to make your case.

like

I lived in stone oak. Very nice and the schools district there is just outstanding.

like

This is where I live now and it is the best. You will love ti.

We we’re in a similar spot a couple years back and chose Fair Oaks Ranch. Part of Boerne ISD and wouldn’t change a thing

As a San Antonian who grew up here.
All of these are solid choices. To make it slightly more broad, if you pick an area from NW to NE SA between IH10 and I-35 that'll usually be better neighborhoods

One thing to remember, NISD has one of if not the the highest tax rate in the state and for the price, you pay for property taxes, all the way until you’re 65, they should be some of the best schools in the state.

This is true, look at the tax rate for NISD, North independent school district, then look at the tax rates for Boerne and Alamo Heights. I don’t know if Alamo Heights will be within the same range as NISD. OP, where are you coming from?

How does a person change their mindset to be more positive? I feel like I’m meant for my job, but blame all my life problems on it….having no energy, being single at the age of 30, etc. and it seems like a never ending loop. I look for new jobs, realize I have a good job then am ok for a bit then start it all over again. When I’m off of work I’m fine and realize I have it pretty good. Only real negative is I can’t vacation with my family in March due to my busy time.

So… 3.5 year relationship came crashing in Jan due to covid depression, work burn out, lockdown etc. We have stayed in contact and recently he has come around to apologizing and considering getting back together. However he also revealed he started seeing someone casually 4 weeks ago and technically is cheating on her by meeting me for coffee and to discuss this. I’m upset that he’s dating others but shouldn’t be right? I mean, I did the same. Still hurts though. And I told him to sort that out

Never tell your wife to calm down. That won’t go well for you.

Instead, turn it into a question like “does someone need a time out?” Much less confrontational that way.

I think living a frugal life and aiming to retire early makes a lot of sense.

Recently, some of my family members are diagnosed with a rare diseases. When you look at the statistics, these are so many of these ‘rare’ conditions and cumulatively they are not rare.

These family members conditions made me reevaluate how I want to spend my life. I am 35 this year and I can’t decide if I should take great vacations with my kids or keep living a frugal life. Do you have the same dilemma?

I’ve been a family caregiver for four years, and now look to return to the workforce. I realize that this will be a bit difficult, especially during these economic conditions, plus other factors, such as being an older employee, etc. I updated my account with a few job sites, adding on the fact that I took time off to care for a family member. I would appreciate some advice, anything that would be helpful.

I am generally uncomfortable when I’m around my mother-in-law’s husband.

While he is overall a decent guy, his anger issues, yelling at his wife for the slightest issue, and insulting nature makes me uncomfortable and triggers my own anger due to his blatant disrespect for just about everyone around him.

My mother-in-law says he’s worked on things, but it’s been 10 years of this and I’m not sure I want such behavior around my wife and our kids since we’re trying to conceive soon (cont).
