Sounds like they see your partner as more valuable than you.
Likely WK1 is correct and they don’t see you performing at the same level/potential as your partner. But also possible that it’s total bullshit and they’re paying you less because they know they can. Agencies are often glorified high schools. Do you and your partner differ in approaches to agency politics? Is he chummier with people than you are? Are you a woman? All things to you shouldn’t have to consider, but should.
I believe employees should always ask for it, and always divulged it when asked. It’s a disadvantage if they don’t.
Are you a woman? Didn’t you know we make 80cents to every dollar they make? 🥺
Yes :/
This is why people should not share their salaries. You asked for it, sorry
If they came in as partners, they already knew each other’s salaries. My partner and I have asked for raises together, and negotiated new job salaries together. It’s not like they met there. That’s a different story.
They should.
Designers make more than copywriters. I don’t think W/K is right. I’ve never made the same as a design partner. The come into the industry at higher salaries and tend to stay there. I have made more than designers BUT it was experience and responsibility based (like I manage now vs my design partner)
Depends on the agency and the work they do. Pharma , content driven and strategy agencies typically pay more for writers.
For context: we came in as a team, and made the same starting salary. But they said due to industry standards art directors have to make more. Is that BS?
I’ve been told copywriters make more. Sounds like people say whatever is most convenient for them at the time.
At some agencies that force ADs to do multiple people’s jobs they are more valuable. If your AD is not only concepting and directing the visual tone of campaigns, but also doing heavy design work they may deserve more because they are doing 2 people’s jobs
There is no rule. It’s based on perceived value, if one person is a stronger negotiator or had more experience prior (or just made more prior to begin with).
If you both came in on par and one got a substantial raise and the other didn’t, then there’s something else going on... most likely they see you as less valuable.
