Quality engineering VS software engineering. I am currently a quality engineer in medical device. I have 4.5 years of experience. I’m stuck between getting a degree and continuing in quality / manufacturing or switching to software where I know money is great. Thoughts?

A company has 2 candidates, aged 25-30, equal in every respect save one’s a man the other’s a woman. Maybe the woman is a slightly better candidate overall. They’d have equal comp.

Company considers the woman a riskier bet due to possibility she’ll take maternity leave — and considers the man less risky for his ineligibility to take as much leave. 🤷

I'm a HS biology teacher with 2 electives, Forensics and Worldwide Medical trends. I am looking for online lab resources, I use labster, Pearson and a colleague and I have started to record what the students would do. Our 5 month old started daycare about 5 weeks ago. We’ve already had to keep her home for 2.5 of those 5 weeks due to catching various illnesses (croup, rsv, brinchiolitis, etc). Both my wife and I have been sick most of that time as well (gotten it from the baby). Wife is thinking we get a full time nanny for the next 4 months to help the baby build antibodies. Cost aside, is this feasible / worthwhile to go thru the effort / finding the right fit, only for 4 months?
