Do you think respect should be earned or given as a junior?

Respect obviously has to be earned. But you have to be given opportunities to earn respect.

So should you be yelled at and put in a corner as a starting basis just because you’re a junior 😅

I think of respect as basic human decency, so given. Seniority shouldn't matter. Trust, on the other hand, should be earned.

This is a SMART response. Great distinction!!

Respect as a human. Professional respect and reverse will be earned. That doesn't mean someone can be a jerk to you. It does mean your opinion may not be relevant, count or considered, possibly because you can't see the flaws in it yet. I couldn't see the forest from the trees for a few years. Ripping you a new one though, never cool.

Ok so how would you define human respect versus professional respect? These are good distinctions.

Everyone deserves respect…until they don’t 😉

So if they don’t then how do you treat them??

Just find a way to pay 17k per year for it like portfolio school.

If you’re not in debt in 2k25 you’re missing out on all the fun! Want to get matching credit cards like yesterday?

Maybe confiscated until earned back?

They break you to build you back better. Same as any other industry.

Everyone deserves respect. Trust, such as in your skills and dependability, is what should be earned.

Designers on this thread for the win! Love this response!!!
