Yes. Biggest difference is they are younger than my generation.

Gen Z is not willing to work 70-80 hours a week months at a time sometimes until 2am in order to get that "partner carrot " in public accounting ". It's not worth it .

No trolling here . Just trying to save souls .
They are infinitely better at setting boundaries than my gen is (millennials).
They set boundaries in very different ways than my generation (Gen-X)

I’ve noticed that most of them are under 30. Very different from my generation
I’ve noticed they want to start late and leave early, be paid for what they think they know, and yet have all the “boomer” issues - don’t know how PDFs work, can’t use excel beyond the basics, don’t know how to attach items to emails or make calendar invites. All very annoying, but somehow they all “know” so much better than me, the ancient millennial. One thing they’re very good at is delegating their tasks.

Excel can easily be taught. That should be the least of your problems .
Incredibly competent and disciplined. Understands priorities at work and at home. They are not afraid to speak up for change, for the better. The future is in good hands.
Unless they are being asked to vote - in which case they’d rather watch TikTok videos or make IG posts
For starters they don’t vote
Every generation has that problem when early adult. It’s not Z specific.
I love them! They go offline at exactly 5 pm when everyone is working past 10 pm and they don’t do weekends. I wish I had the guts.

GenZ isn't willing to sell their souls to the devil for that Partner carrot
Is 29 a millennial or Z? 🤔
I share your sentiment pwc1. I’m the same way I suppose, I relate more to gen-z but have the same perspective of accountability and quality. I value WLB significantly more than the financial benefit so long as I can support my baseline lifestyle. I recognize the old model is also overkill and in this day and age will lead to burnouts and is not sustainable.
People in this bowl love to dunk on TaxSenior1 but in many respects, he is right. Let’s look at the numbers. Only 2% of CPAs make it to Partner according to the AICPA and we all know there are plenty of non-CPAs in public accounting. Moreover, 75% of CPAs are retirement age according to the AICPA which means the pool of talent is thinning. To compound this problem, the amount of people sitting for the CPA has precipitously declined from 102K in 2016 to 67K in 2022. If that isn’t glaring enough, 300K accountants and auditors left their jobs between 2019 and 2021 which was almost 20% of the accounting workforce. This all shows that the industry need to change. The 🥕 of making Partner is ridiculous considering the commitment involved and how few CPAs actually make it. It is even more absurd when you consider how everyone below them has zero equity. Moreover, it an objective fact that starting pay in public accounting has not kept pace with inflation or the cost of living. There needs to be a fundamental restructuring of the business model to incentivize the next generation and it starts with offering higher compensation and incentives to match the competition i.e. tech, finance, etc.
The carrot is also going away with the private equity investments at the mid market level. GT, BT…
Worked with a gen z intern. Fell asleep in every meeting, showed up to work late, never had a real job before and called his mom for everything. Worst experience but not all gen z are like this
I think you can find that in any generation.

No difference at all just look at bdo
🍿 this thread should be good
Love them. They set healthy boundaries Darius to not burn out. They watched their parents and generations before them give up and get nothing.
Like GT just let go a bunch of people and some were performance based. But other just restructing and not caring. So why would they give up joy for a partner to buy a second house when they could be cut at any moment.
a lot of things
What carrot? It’s an onion and a raw one at that. Happily retired from the craziness .
I have worked at several firms and to me they can be very unwilling to work with older generations. I work for a company now that I feel respected by all generations but at other companies it was acceptable for the GenZ and Millennials to ostracize the Boomers and GenX employees. As management gets younger the traditional ways (written word, calculations etc) are being abandoned for straight computer reliance. Older generations are looked down for relying on thought processes and reasoning.
I never said I didn’t learn anything from the GenZ or Millennials because I have. I said that with them we are losing things that should be used also. I feel as though the GenX and Boomers have so much to contribute but the younger workers seem to forget that. Do you learn from the older more experienced workers or do you rely more upon the newer generation experiences. I feel like we should take the responsibility to learn from each generation.
