Depends heavily on the IA group. In the past year I’ve watched young employees (non-manager level) from my Fortune 500’s IA group move internally into other controller and manager positions and more are currently in talks for such roles as the group is seen as something of a training ground for better positions.
Internal Audit is awful.
Never liked internal audit during my 1 year stint... probably just the travel but that’s it. Didn’t learn anything. No standards. Worked with guys way above my age. Just doing some bs testing. Maybe if you want life work balance go for it. Id rather be a financial analyst than IA.
IA is where careers go to die
IA can be a great career, but don't stay too long. If there isn't a real prospect for manager by the end of year two, shift into management or another area of the company. Otherwise, like has been said before, you can get stuck. Source -was in IA for 6 years at two fourtune can companies.
If it’s Vanguard stick it out because you will be able to move inside the company after 1-2 years
