Does anyone have any advice on lateraling into big law for entertainment? I have many years of transactional entertainment experience at a boutique firm in LA representing talent. We do great work and I know there is more that I can learn, but I have out grown this place and am trying to figure out my next steps. I never thought I would even end up in this type of work that I am doing, but want to see bigger deals on a more consistent basis. Let me know if I can be of any assistance as well.

I am very interested to hear your reasoning for seeking out this type of move. I did the exact opposite (biglaw to talent side) and can’t imagine going back for anything other than the money.

Ding ding ding ! 😭 lol. But in all seriousness, I just need something new/bigger deals and willing to stay on this side

Traditional talent work (acting/writing agreements, endorsement deals etc) in big law is relatively rare because individuals celebs, while very rich, are going to be way more fee sensitive than a company when it comes to paying big law rates.

Most of the time, Talent uses big law for their companies/ventures, and that can lead to some traditional talent work trickling into the pipeline. So having a general corporate/emerging companies background is actually pretty helpful, especially since your experience with NIL rights will be extremely important when setting up those corporate ventures.

To be honest, I would look into firms that rep big talent ventures (like Honest Company and Cooley, or Latham and Goop) and seeing if they have a partner that does talent work and then start networking.

Additionally, the variety dealmakers impact report can give you a sense of which big law/full service firms have strong talent practices. Firms like Sheppard Mullins and Venable come to mind there (believe they pay market, but tbh i’m not 100% sure).

How did you get your first entertainment role? 5yrs out of law school and never stopped applying but have never landed an entertainment opportunity.

This is the way whether you're still in law school or out. Persistence pays off. But persistence requires something other than blind resume submissions. Engage on linkedin about issues affecting the entertainment business, take a less than stellar in-house job or go to a smaller firm that will give you some runway to work on IP and entertainment clients.

So, here it is. I was having joining on last week October as a senior analyst data science in Tiger Analytics. Today I got an call from HR that due to economic recession we are going to delay your date of joining by 2 months. My notice period was of 3 months. So total duration would be 5 months. Infact even after that too they didn't send me revised offer letter. There is something wrong with this company.
