General question, and I suspect the answer is no. Are there any employment or exec comp-related jobs in the entertainment industry? Or, are there any law firms purely focused on entertainment that have a comp/employment/benefits group? I’m at a large firm with a lot of high profile artists, but I’d like to narrow my practice down to entertainment.

Not in my experience. We are a boutique firm and our practice areas include exec comp employment matters, but it’s not a group solely focused on that area.

Agreed

The majors and other big companies have L&E departments. You could maybe also try working at an agency or even being an agent/manager. But as far as law firms go I’d suspect you can focus on entertainment or focus on employment but not both.

I dunno. We are a boutique and exec comp is part of our range of services. Note that except for C-suite, exec comp deals for industry folks are often done by entertainment transactional lawyers at a reduced rate or gratis. Part of the culture as it were. Ironically, employment separation for exec side is not.

As a law student interested in going into the field I’ve seen a lot of negative comments saying that only lawyers who couldn’t get into big law go into PA. Although I know most people try to get into big law initially, it is very competitive and many don’t stay past 2-3 years. You certainly don’t make as much going into PA as a lawyer but the pay is certainly not bad and the WLB is generally much better. Can anyone speak to how they got into PA and if you would rather be working in Big Law
