I use worldly wise for vocabulary and I put the sets on quizlet. My kids love playing quizlet live and they’re all in competition with each other on the match game.

I have the kids create a Google Slide for each word. It can only contain 1 picture that represents the definition of the word. They quiz their partners to see if they can figure out which word is being represented. I also have them write sentences using the word. The sentence must also contain a context clue. I then create a Kahoot using their sentences and omit the vocabulary word from the sentence. If I use their sentence, it’s extra credit to them.

I used to have a teacher who divided our class into teams, gave each team 2 vocabulary words to act out (there was a time limit to how long we had to come up with our skit and for how long the skit could be), and the other teams had to guess the meaning. The first team to guess correctly got points. We started each week this way. At the end of the quarter there was some kind of prize for the team with the most points and the points reset/the teams were regrouped for the next quarter.

Holidays are rough. Lots of grief and loss. All of my abusive relationships were in the winter-ptsd. A lot of past trauma around this time. Then , family trauma. Whenever I go home for the holidays, I regress and turn back into the little girl people used to emotionally and verbally abuse, exclude and reject/abandon. Any advice on self care? Or similar experience with family?

New to Toronto, moved to the west end of town/ just past - in Etobicoke. I celebrate my 40th a few days after NYE/NYD - would love some recommendations on moderately priced but nice ambiance restaurants for myself + husband, and my extended family. How do you avoid alcohol? My social activities with friends still revolve around alcohol and I find it fun, but lately, it’s not really worth it. I get hungover on Sunday followed by 3 days of depression and feeling empty, and back to life on Thursdays. My weeks are fine when I don’t drink. After investigation, it seems like they all skip the depression, so I assume my body just doesn’t vibe with alcohol and I should make a change. So, how do you deal with peer pressure?

What do you think of IXL? Our district has a subscription and is really pushing the diagnostic this year (it’s replacing CAASP testing). I’m now trying to use the post-diagnostic suggestions to retrain students in areas skills they are behind. Any thoughts? Suggestions? I teach both ELA and Math.
